VIRGINIA

Sail Beyond Cancer® Virginia launched in the spring of 2025 and it was a tremendously successful first season on the York River! Our crew of dedicated volunteers offer private, 3-hour sailing excursions for individuals challenged by cancer. We sail aboard our fleet vessel, Solace, a 2016 Beneteau Oceanis 41.1 that was donated to the organization.

NOMINATE

Our mission of honoring those challenged by cancer by harnessing the healing powers of wind, water, and sail is put into action by providing our Nominees meaningful experiences of relief from the challenges of cancer through two types of sailing excursions:

  • RESPITE SAILS: Anyone currently in treatment for, or living with cancer, is eligible to be nominated for a respite sail - any age, any diagnosis. Our nominees are able to invite 5 guests to join them in this opportunity to rebuild courage and make lasting memories.

  • MEMORIAL SAILS: Designed to let those who have lost a loved one to cancer know they are not alone in the journey. Memorial sails offer a time of honoring those lost to cancer for individuals who have lost a loved one in the past three years.

DONATE

As a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit, Sail Beyond Cancer® Virginia relies on the generous support of individual donors, family foundations and corporate grants to support our mission.  Your donation offers the gift of time away from the everyday challenges of cancer and gives time with loved ones out in the healing elements of wind, water, and sail.

Local companies can also show their support through one of our 2026 Sailing Season Sponsorship Opportunities which can be found here.

VOLUNTEER

As the chapter grows and expands our footprint across Virginia, sailors and landlubbers alike are invited to join us! If you are interested in Volunteer Roles, check out the opportunities available here, then submit your info through the VOLUNTEER button below to receive details on how to join us for an upcoming info session.

If you are a boat owner and interested in using your vessel to host mission sails, you can learn more about our Hybrid Boat Program here, then share some vessel details in the “Additional Information” section with your info through the VOLUNTEER button below.

It’s an exciting time and we hope you will join us in 2026 as we continue to honor those being challenged by cancer –
