SAIL BEYOND CANCER
VIRGINIA

Sail Beyond Cancer® Virginia launched in the spring of 2025 with 68 mission sails during our inaugural season. In 2026, our program has continued to grow, with mission sails departing from the York River and expanding through our Private Boat Partner Program to reach more individuals and families across Virginia.

 

Our dedicated volunteers provide free, private 3-hour sailing excursions for individuals challenged by cancer and up to five guests. Mission sails are hosted aboard our fleet vessel, Solace, a 2016 Beneteau Oceanis 41.1, as well as privately owned vessels whose owners generously partner with us to support our mission.

NOMINATE

Our mission of honoring those challenged by cancer by harnessing the healing powers of wind, water, and sail is put into action through two sailing programs:

• RESPITE SAILS: Anyone currently in treatment for, or living with cancer, is eligible to be nominated—any age, any diagnosis. Our nominees may invite up to five guests to join them for an opportunity to step away from the stresses of cancer, enjoy time together and create lasting memories.

​​

• MEMORIAL SAILS: Designed to let those who have lost a loved one to cancer know they are not alone in the journey. Memorial sails provide an opportunity to honor and remember a loved one lost to cancer within the past three years.

As a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit, Sail Beyond Cancer® Virginia relies on individuals, businesses, foundations and community partners to make our mission possible. Every mission sail is provided completely free to our Honorees and their guests.

 

Your support helps us maintain our vessels, operate our sailing programs, support our volunteers and expand our ability to serve more individuals and families impacted by cancer.

 

Local businesses and organizations can also support our mission through corporate sponsorships and community partnerships.

VOLUNTEER

As our chapter grows and expands across Virginia, sailors and landlubbers alike are invited to join us! Volunteers support our mission both on the water and behind the scenes through onboard crew roles, vessel maintenance, scheduling, outreach, events and other opportunities.

Own a sailboat? Our Private Boat Partner Program allows qualified boat owners to use their own vessels to host mission sails and help us reach more individuals and families across Virginia.
