Sail Beyond Cancer Newport is ready to rock and roll into the 2026 sailing season on Narragansett Bay. Over two dozen cancer patients have been nominated to join us aboard our flagship, ALBA, and other dedicated and privately-owned vessels for a private, three-hour respite sail.

By Sail Beyond Cancer® Annapolis   Sail Beyond Cancer® USA has chapters in Virginia, Annapolis, North Shore, MA; Newport, and Vermont offers free, private three-hour sailing experiences on the Chesapeake Bay for those currently in cancer-related treatment and their loved ones. "Terrell’s connection to Sail Beyond Cancer began long before she ever set foot on a sailboat. As exercise partners, she and her friend Suzanne Snyder often exchanged ideas and encouragement. In early 2014 when Suzanne was diagnosed with breast cancer, she envisioned creating meaningful respite experiences for others facing cancer. Terrell urged her friend to “run with it.”

Around the Thanksgiving table, we also hold space for our friends and family who have crossed over the bridge. On a more intimate level, Sail Beyond Cancer’s 3- hour memorial sails provide a safe, distraction-free and healing environment to memorialize those who have succumbed to cancer.

One local sailor, in particular, has had an especially profound impact on the group’s efforts since coming onboard in the early stages of the Annapolis chapter.
